The collection includes five reels of original film including an audio track, three VHS video masters made from that film, and a thirty minute videotape use copy representing the contents of the original film master. These record an interview conducted by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration with Robert L. Bernstein of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Satellite Oceanographic Facility on January 2, 1980 at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California. The director was L. Jones. This interview is identified on slats as "NASA Interview at Remote Sensing, production no. 73-79." In the interview, Bernstein discusses remote sensing of the oceans and the importance of the first U.S. facility for satellite oceanography which began operation at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography on Oct. 12, 1979. The facility was jointly sponsored by NASA, the National Science Foundation, and the the Office of Naval Research. Bernstein describes the three satellites the facility could access, Nimbus 7, TIROS N and NOAA 6. He explains the functions and operations of the facility and its impact on oceanographic research. At the end of the film, there is a silent 5 minute segment that includes views of R/V Thomas Washington at Nimitz Marine Facility in San Diego. The collection also includes 3 long playing records containing audio recordings of programs broadcast by NASA on radio, and a cassette use copy of the audio programs.
